The highly Anticipated Release Date of Battlefield 3

Gamertell previously reported on rumors that the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3 would ship with two discs.  Disc 2 contains an optional hi-res texture pack on the second disc, which must be installed to the Xbox 360’s hard drive.

Without that install, Bach said the game is essentially “standard def” on the 360. The game will still run in high resolution without the install, but texture qualities will be reduced. PS3 and PC versions will have the texture pack as part of their regular install. Bach said such an install had to be made optional because not all 360’s have hard drives.

The PS3 version ships on a single Blu-Ray disc.
The game will feature combat in urban environments throughout the world, including Paris, Sarajevo and New York. "There's nothing magic about it," said Bach. You can actually stream information from the hard drive.

Bach assures us that installing the high-res texture pack will actually make a noticeable difference.The highly anticipated release date of Battlefield 3 is Tuesday (October 25th) on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in the US! 

The expansion includes four legendary maps from Battlefield 2 boldly re-imagined in the Frostbite 2 engine, as well as Battlefield 2 weapons, vehicles, and unique rewards.  Combined, these maps have accumulated over 25,000 years of play-time. It's not the Frostbite engine that's demanding the use of streaming tech though, Bach informs.
