Happy Thanksgiving with Google Doodles

Written By Hourpost on Thursday, November 24, 2011 | 5:09 AM

So might I share Google's Thanksgiving doodle, for whose sheer exuberance I am very grateful. It seems like just another colorful turkey. I spotted roller skates, purple jester shoes, sneakers, high-heeled purple pumps, flip-flops, court shoes, and even what looked like football boots. On the company's blog, doodler Willie Real explains that this creation is paying homage to his favorite elementary-school memory: creating hand turkeys.

Naturally, because this is a corporate priority, Real informs that you can share your creatively doodled hand turkeys on Google+. Now Google is helping you relive your artsy elementary school days with a customizable "hand turkey" homepage doodle. Click the turkey's feathers for different options, or pull it's wing casino-slot style and Google will outfit your turkey in various accessories—from a football helmet or party hat to a blonde wig or pirate eye patch. Last year, Google's Thanksgiving doodle featured recipes from TV host Ina Garten. After you've had your fill of turkey doodles and perhaps actual turkey, there are countless deals going on for Black Friday and beyond, including Walmart, Amazon, OfficeMax, Staples, and Costco, among others.

For more on Google's doodles, see the slideshow below. The company has also honored Gumby creator Art Clokey, Muppets creator Jim Henson, and Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Recently, it was revealed that Google obtained a patent for its popular homepage doodles, covering "systems and methods for enticing users to access a Web site." Happy Thanksgiving! We are celebrating the holiday here at Mashable with a look back at all the Thanksgiving-themed Google Doodles since the search giant launched.
