Trombonist Curtis Fuller is best known as a member of the sextet version of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers that recorded for the Blue Note and Riverside labels. His warm and soulful sound also featured in countless other sessions that he either led or was part of in Hard Bop's heyday of the late 1950's and early 1960's.
His latest album is Curtis' heartfelt tribute to his late wife Cathy and presents this via original compositions, well judged song selections and spoken interludes from Curtis himself. This remarkable recording reflects on Curtis' and Cathy's life together and how he now lives without her - matters discussed in a compassionate liner note from saxophonist and long-time colleague Benny Golson.
