Gary Hoey: Get A Grip (1991)

Written By Hourpost on Thursday, March 15, 2012 | 1:45 AM

Originally released in Germany on the MGI Records label under the title, "Get A Grip", Gary Hoey was the guitarist's first studio experience, with all the guitars recorded in two days. What's interesting is not only that the CD was repackaged and resequenced, but that the album credits seem to have also changed in the process, meaning some additional drums from Frankie Banali and some bass work contributed by Tony Franklin. Hoey states, "Gary Hoey was a fast-paced adrenaline rush for me, and I think the raw energy and spntaneous vibe comes through." That's certainly true on tracks such as "Get A Grip" and "Stack Attack" which show off Hoey's more aggressive side, as well songs like "Strat Strut" which anticipate the familiar Hoey sound which was solidified on CDs such as "Animal Instinct" and "Bug Alley".
