New Car: 2012 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

Subaru today unveiled a trio of special-edition Impreza WRXs and WRX STIs for Australian and Japanese consumption that we won’t be getting here in the United States.

The first special-edition model Subaru unveiled is the Australia-only WRX Club Spec. The limited-edition WRX Club Spec (just 300 will be made) takes a four-door WRX sedan, adds tangerine or black paint, leather trim, black 17-inch wheels, black door mirrors and STI wing, a Club Spec badge outside, and a numbered Club Spec Badge inside. The WRX Club Spec will be available solely with a manual transmission.

In Japan, Subaru has released two special-edition models based on the Impreza WRX STI. The first new model is a sedan version of the WRX STI spec C. Some may recall the four-door hatchback version of the spec C released in 2010 proved so popular it stuck around (even spawning a similar special edition model here in the U.S.). Like its manual-only hatchback predecessor, the sedan WRX STI spec C gets a more efficient turbocharger, retuned ECU, a stiffer suspension, and aluminum hood. The JDM-spec WRX STI spec C’s 2.0-liter turbocharged F-4′s power remains unchanged at 304 hp, but torque rises to 317 lb-ft.

The WRX STI A-Line type S Package is a bit softer than the spec C. Unlike the spec C, the A-Line type S Package comes with the 2.5-liter turbocharged F-4 we get here, though it’s bolted to something we can’t get – a five-speed automatic transmission. The more-refined WRX STI A-Line type S Package also adds Alcantara seats and trim throughout the cabin, plus BBS forged 18-inch wheels.
