[Mingpao Interview] with 'Big Sister' (大姐大)
In today's society there exists more women than men. Men with good qualities are becoming best sellers, especially those in the entertainment circle. Those viewed as 'seun poon' (best deal) in the public eye includes Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan, Raymond Lam, Kenneth Ma and Bosco Wong, who had recently fallen out of love. Mingpao's Big Sister (大姐大) has many girl friends having extreme admiration for them. Among them is Raymond Lam, who has the family background and is developing well in all three areas of music, television and film. He's the best of the 'best deals'.

Raymond's Girlfriend Will Be Seen As a Marriage Partner
BS: You're too busy, don't even have the time to go on vacation. How will you find a girlfriend?
R: Honestly, I want to date too. If one day, you all see me on a date, please don't make such a big deal out of it. What I don't understand is, artists have their personal lives too. It's like that overseas, very normal, what's the problem?
BS: When you choose a girlfriend, will you think of her as someone you will marry?
R: Yes, because I hope to really be attentive and serious towards a relationship, so I will cherish the process. As for the candidates, I haven't been observing.
BS: If you have a girlfriend, will you announce?
R: Not deliberately. Actually, is there anything wrong for an artist to be having dinner with a friend of the opposite sex? The sacrifice of an artist is that they put in a great deal of effort into their work in order to entertain the public, but its not necessary for them to sacrifice their privacy too. I hope everyone won't push too hard, there must be mutual respect and please don't throw salt and vinegar into it.
BS: You are too handsome and famous, do you think you're a 'seun poon'?
R: Haha, its all based on opinion.
Raymond talks about "Happy Sir" in Highs And Lows
Big Sister watched Raymond grow. In the early years, he was more focused on martial arts series, but in the recent years he often portraying professionals. In his new series Highs and Lows, it is his breakthrough performance and his first time playing a police officer. Of course Big Sister has showed her support for him by watching the series. Raymond plays the very 'man' Happy Sir and goes on a 'Chok Battle' with 3 Gor (Michael Miu). Big Sister couldn't help but shout: "You really are naturally born to Chok!"
BS: Did you add your own elements into the character because you liked him?
R: Actually, there is my shadow in every role I've portrayed. Because I really liked the strange personality Happy Sir has, there is a great feeling of satisfaction and it gives audience room for thought. If it's too predictable, then there's no fresh feeling. In the past, my roles were too serious and proper, some scripts weren't good enough and I really had to find a breakthrough in the role on my own in order to attract the public eye. So, I had a lot of fun with this role, really enjoyed it.
BS: Michael Miu's performance stands out too, are you worried he might steal your limelight?
R: When I first got the script, I thought I was the 'black cop' (triad mole), but it turns out I'm the righteous character. I was a little disappointed, but thinking in respect to the storyline, character and personality, I reconsidered for a whole month and realized the role can be really fun. Once I come out, audience won't be able to guess what I'm going to do next.
Raymond's Thoughts of the TV King Title
Although Raymond's roles in the recent year had been well-received, he still had no fate with the TV King title. This year he has performed well in both his music and television series, which naturally makes him one of the hot favorites for the "Most Popular Male Singer" and "Best Actor" awards. It could be a 'double fly' for him. Big Sister heard TVB is allowing the audience vote for the winner this year. Raymond has a large fan base and as TVB's 'biological son', of course he'll be in the front line.
BS: Do you have confidence to get this year's TV King title?
R: Honestly speaking, I am very confidant if it's public voting, but the server cannot go down. Haha. After all, I have another identity as a singer and another group of music fans. It helps a lot. I'm very lucky.
BS: Since you started out as a television actor, wouldn't it be perfect to get TV King?
R: I don't think so, but I do hope to get another award in my acting career. I'm really grateful for the media and audience, often placing the attention on me, so every time no matter what award ceremony it is, whether if it I get an award or not, there will always be different noise from the audience. Since you'll get gossips whether you get the award or not, then why wouldn't you want to get it?
BS: Are you confident to get the "Most Popular Male Singer" award too?
R: Must have confidence, have to see if its a public vote or not.
Raymond Talks About the Film Industry
BS: You are developing in television, music and film, will you be too busy and won't be able to focus on one area?
R: I am currently focused more on films. To me, film is very broad and from there I can see what I want and what satisfies me. At first, I was worried that I wouldn't fit in, but at the time Raymond Wong (the producer) said to me, "I think you fit" to encourage me. This is very important to me. After all, I did start out from television and I'm reluctant to give up my TV fans, so each year I choose to participate in a challenging series with a rich storyline and one that gives room for development.
BS: Currently, you are still a rookie film actor, is the Film King award your goal?
R: Wah! Of course I hope so, no matter what industry it is, you must strive to get the highest honor in that industry.
BS: Since you are gaining more money and fame in the recent years, are you starting to become complacent and feel lost?
R: Feeling lost is not because of complacency. It is because you don't know what step you should take next. I am not greedy and want to do everything. I can say "no" to my boss because I cannot be distracted. I don't want to be insufficient in both areas. Actually, I don't want to have too much work lined up and it's not because I'm lazy. It is rather, after so many years, I realized I don't get enough time to digest and I don't have enough time to learn new things. Then what do I have to show to the audience?
