Niacin: Deep (2000)

The third studio album from this fusion power trio packs a two-fisted wallop and takes no prisoners. Billy Sheehan's bass solos on "Panic Button" and "Sugar Blues" are highlights, but, in truth, much of the record is practically a bass solo. His sound is crushing -- not unlike the fat tone Chris Squire used to get in the early days of Yes, but pumped up with even more gain. John Novello wrings astonishing sounds out of the Hammond B-3 organ, and drummer Dennis Chambers gives every track enough rhythmic juice to power a small country. The instrumental cover of Van Halen's "Mean Streets" verges on silly, however. "Things Ain't Like They Used to Be" (not to be confused with the similarly titled Duke Ellington tune) isn't much of a song, and Glenn Hughes' guest vocal is overblown, but guitar ace Steve Lukather contributes tasty licks and a hair-raising solo. Niacin's sound can get a little wearisome after a while, but if muscular, technically adept fusion is your thing, this is your band. ~ David R. Adler

[BY REQUEST] Daniel Pique: Boo!! (2010) [Limited Edition]

While many musicians fit easily into a single category Daniel Piquê's unique musical vision remains unclassifiable. At only 22 years of age he is showing the world that age isn’t a prerequisite to be a mature talent and win your place in music history. Graduated in Music Production at 19 years, as a guitar player and producer, he has an impressive curriculum. Billy Sheehan (Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr Big e Talas), Mike Mangini (Extreme, Berklee Teacher, Steve Vai) and Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius, Revolution Renascence) are some of the many musicians with which DP has worked, ranging in Productions / Recordings CDs, DVDs and Tours. Always with an innovative, intuitive mix of techniques, virtuosity and melodies filled with feeling and truth, DP launched in 2008, the ONE (single CD) – music titled OO - which took the Brazilian instrumental music to another level.
With the success and recognition of work done with countless downloads, and always positive reviews on websites and magazines, DP, in 2009, released his first official CD entitled Boo!
Having achieved getting his face on covers of specific magazines around the world, being ranked number one in Myspace for six months as an independent artist in three styles and receiving musical reviews reaffirming his unique talent, he won the confidence of those within the most respected musical industries in the world.
In his discography, in addition to CDs ONE and Boo!! are included DVDs The Crossword e Guitarra (with him as a musician, director, producer and editor) and several other special guests invited as guitarist / producer.
