Lexus is taking the fight to the upcoming BMW M4 and Audi RS5 with this, the IS-F Convertible.
Until now, the flagship IS-F has been a standalone product, only available as a four-door saloon. But these spy shots show the Japanese car maker is now developing a folding hardtop version, too.
Based on the standard IS-C, Lexus hopes to improve sales by adding a 5.0-litre V8 and eight-speed automatic gearbox. This means that the IS-F Convertible will produce 417bhp and will be capable of a 0-62mph time of around 4.8 seconds. In addition, Lexus will tune the chassis and give the IS-F Convertible bigger brakes and a stiffer suspension setup.
Visually, it takes styling cues from its IS-F saloon sibling. It’s a fairly conservative approach but the car sits more squat and the sculpted bumpers give an aggressive look. The only major addition over the standard IS-C is the large rear spoiler, which may or may not reach production.
If it does go on sale, expected first deliveries of the IS-F Convertible towards the middle of next year. Prices should start at around £65,000. For more details click here.
