Danny Gottlieb is one of the most popular drummers in jazz and contemporary music. While best known as the drummer in the original Pat Metheny Group, Danny, during the past 25 years, has performed and recorded with some of the world’s greatest musicians.

Takis Barberis: Episodes (1995)

The composer and guitarist Takis Barberis and his quintet, consisting of the most renowned musicians on the Greek jazz scene, join forces and come up with thirteen jazz 'episodes'. Ethnic, jazz and rock are the ingredients of this elaborate acoustic concoction. The timeless rhythm and flowing music - entrancing and spellbinding - convey a most fascinating atmosphere against the backdrop of the Aegean Sea. The two guest-stars, the world-acclaimed percussionist Trilok Gurtu and Petroloucas Chalkias, one of the most renowned clarinetists in Greece, add to the whole venture.

Trilok Gurtu's Crazy Saints: Believe (1994)

1994's Believe continued the assault on Western music precepts that Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu had been engaged in for more than a decade. This time out Gurtu's sensibilities were coming much more from the West than from his traditional East. "Believe" begins as an electronic funk fest. Gurtu plays Western percussion. Guitarist Gilmore reaches deep into the fusion barrel with his somewhat rude and suggestive solo.

The Doky Brothers: 2 (1997)

The Doky Brothers, Vol. 2 pales slightly in comparison to the duo's first release, but the album remains a fine example of contemporary mainstream jazz due to the exceptional playing of pianist Niels Lan Doky and bassist Chris Minh Doky.

Trilok Gurtu: Bad Habits Die Hard (1995)

Trilok Gurtu's band is fantastic at this point in his career. All the instrumentalists are superb. The album flows very well from piece to piece. The guitarist David Gilmore (not Pink Floyd) is subtle and freely focused with his solos. Trilok astounds as always, but even more so on this record.
